Search Service

What service do we offer ?

You can choose up to 3 names. These can be surnames or individuals, vessel names, or addresses. We will search our database for related items and will e-mail or post you a list of any relevant entries, with an indication of the extent of any additional detail available. The search service is performed on a first-received-first-answered basis. The average response time is 14 days from receipt of an enquiry.

Members have access to the Museum library and to our archives (by arrangement).

Obviously, more information will be available on a whole family, than on a specific individual. Whilst the database is extensive, there is more information which we would like to add to the database than is on it. Consequently we can not guarantee that specific information will be found. Information about people in the last 100 years is restricted to protect people's privacy.

How do I request a search ?

We ask for a minimum donation of £5, in advance, to ensure we cover the electricity, printing and postage or telephone costs of the search. This is non-returnable: in the event that we do not find any information relevant to the enquiry we will still have incurred costs making the search and replying. Cheques, Postal Orders or International Money Orders should be made payable to Brixham Heritage Museum. Please let us know if you pay U.K. tax, as we may be able to claim additional money from the taxman.

Write with your requirements to Brixham Heritage Museum, Bolton Cross, Brixham, Devon, TQ5 8LZ.

What's on the database ?

Some other services are available from a private local researcher. If your enquiry relates to a fishing families from the mid nineteenth century to the 1920's, Graham Parnell has a large database of information with over a thousand Brixham sailing vessels and crews.
